That was really good. There is always an awkward leap to get through for magic stuff, but keep trying and I'm sure you can get past it. Your animation was nice, i would love to see more. the voice acting was good and enjoyable too.
to get past that awkward bit where you try to portray actions that real people never take(i.e. grunting or chanting spells) you just have to work at it until you find a way that works with your animation.
it might sound silly, but try watching and paying close attention to shows with real people that do that stuff a lot, the actors and directors have put a lot of thought into how to convey things, it takes a fair amount of effort to get your character's actions to fit their voices, but you are definitely on the right track.
watch shows that do it regularly, even if its live action. just watching cartoons will make you forget how some voices can match up with their bodies, so its good practice to watch both types of shows. something like Heroes or Supernatural.(mostly heroes. really good acting) would be a great place to look for the awkward grunts and screams that accompany this stuff.
RWBY is on netflix now and they do a good job getting past that awkward leap as the show progresses.

Thanks for the critique :) I agree the action was a bit awkward. Heroes I'd a show I haven't watched yet but have been meaning to so I'll definitely take alook at their action scenes to see how to improve mine. I wish I saw Little Witch Acedemia 2 before working on this video, the magic would have looked a lot better xD.

I started the video and i saw the caption, short but powerful, and i said to myself. "great! that's the best way for it to be" but then it was twenty seconds long. I understand the pains and monotony of long animations, but a little clip like this can't get you much fame. if you made something like this but a bit longer, you could make a serious impression on people. good job!

McGil responds:

thx man, that's a good advice

I like it okay. its a cool idea and you certainly have some talent, but you need a higher fps rate. your action scenes look like they jump around a lot of the time and if its about not having the time to make more frames, I would enjoy this twice as much, if it had half as many fights but they were twice as smooth. nothing beats the feeling of a good fight scene and lack of good fight scenes is the primary reason that cg fails(that and not seeing as much of the artist's creativity, but you do well enough on that part) literally just double your fps. even if you only bother with those extra frames during the fight scenes. I've followed your stuff for a while and i've gotta say its good. better than most the cg stuff i will see on here. but the skippy action sequences are killing you.

Kel-chan responds:

the problem with higher frame rate during action sequences is you can't see the movements. everything just blurs all together which looks more realistic in a way however it looks messy and sloppy. Realism doesnt blend well with cartoony anime character models- it just makes things look off in an uncanny valley sort of way. If I had more realistic models of people it might look a little better with a higher frame rate, something more like Dead or Alive or Final fantasy.

Other thing I could try is just simply speeding up playback with a lower frame rate so the animation plays faster and you still can see the movement. I'll probably try this in the next project

It just keeps playing forever. i can't look away. i don't want to look away.

that said i have only one problem. i cannot tell what they are saying during the space fight thing. "refracted in a labyrinth of my pain"? most of it is clear. but it sounds like "repracted" rather than
"refracted" so I'm not sure if that's right.

during the first run through the song, i wasn't sure about a lot of the lyrics. the second time i watched it, all(but that one i mentioned) became clear. also the looping works really well. it just flows together forever

as i write this. i am watching the loop for probably the 10th iteration of the loop atleast. this is amazing.

sexual-lobster, you just have such a complete art style and composition that i literally couldn't find anything in the whole video that looked out of place. this is probably one of my favorite animations you have made.

Sexual-Lobster responds:

cheers. yup you got the refracted line right.

I would love to see a movie version of this.

ClockworkPixel responds:

thank you :)
